I migrated this blog from Ghost(Pro) to the fly.io + Bunny.net combo.
Ghost(Pro) remains the best option for a mission-critical Ghost blog, but $29 a month is simply an overkill for a casual blogger like me who just wants to install a free theme and performs minimal customization.
By migrating to fly.io, I likely get to stay on their free tier for a very long time.
I'd need to enable lazy server start-up to stay free, but it's not a good thing to see that "we are working on it" booting page even for the lowest traffic. This is where Bunny.net CDN comes into play: by serving from their cache, it doesn't really matter if my server is temporarily down due to the auto-stop. I do experience the booting-up phase when I access the dashboard, but that won't bother at all. The cost? $1 per month since that's the minimum; otherwise it'd have been just a few cents.
Overall it's now much more cost-effective for me — roughly $1/mth, down from $29. I'm writing more on LinkedIn now, but I'd still want a place for long-form writing when the impulse comes. The only downside is that the comments are gone, since there doesn't seem to be an easy way to migrate comments reliably.
